Apologies

I would first like to say that I am sorry, upon further review of historical snow data from the weather sparks database, it appears that there was a fairly long period where it didn’t snow consistently in Seattle. From 2008 to 2016, the consistency of snowfall was around 50% (notice how this is also the time Obama was in office, I do not think this was a coincidence). But since then, it has snowed every February in Seattle. If you would like to look more into this data yourself, you can find the link here. To my haters who thought it wouldn’t snow this year. I would like to say I’m sorry… that you guys believe something so wrong. It’s going to snow in February. Ok now on with the data.

The Data

I’m trying my best with the graphs but I know they definitely could get better. If you have any notion tips I’d love to hear them! In total there were 33 submissions with 12 people saying it would not snow and 21 people saying it would. I tried using the Calendar view in Notion but it’s a little too finicky so I’ve decided to just remake it in a table here:

1
2: Mariana 3: Fadiya 4 5: Meera 6 7: Jaden, Julia, Sahana 8: Melia
9: Tiffany 10: Mingxin 11: Skibidi 12: Ananya 13: Madison, Claire, Lily 14: Hubert, Rock 15: Saska, AJ
16
17 18: David, Min 19 20 21 22: Cassie
23
24 25 26 27 28

I would also like to give a shout out to Mariana Shuman and Cassie Xia. The two of them were the earliest and latest picked dates respectively (Feb 2nd and Feb 22nd)! I think Cassie’s vote is especially really interesting technically it’s the best by far but to really explain why I have to highlight the rules again.

What happens if no one wins(ex: it snows on the 28th but the latest pick is the 25th):

The winner is then the last picked date

This means that if you are the last picked date, you not only get the spaces that are in front of your date but also the spaces that are behind your date as well. So in total, Cassie has 10 days. If it snows between February 19th to February 28th she will win. No one else is even close to having this many possible winning days! The next runner up is David Wang and Min B with 3 days (February 16th to February 18th).

Other Notes

This isn’t data but I would also like to point out how confidently Edwin Ong said it would not snow. On discord he sent this:

I am a man so my ego is a little fragile and thus I will not be spited laying down.

In addition, if you look into the data, you may see one peculiar name. For some reason someone submitted under “Skibidi Sigma”. I cannot say I appreciate that choice… but it’s a choice and I must respect it.

And finally I would just like to thank you all for participating! This has been such a fun project for myself and I’m just really grateful you all have come on this ride with me. For those of you who I didn’t reach out to or who missed seeing my promotion for this, I apologize. But don’t worry every year it will snow in Seattle in February so I will be back!

The Cost

Some people ask how much money I will be losing from this event? Well let me put it this way. There are 12 people who said it wouldn’t snow and from those who said it would snow, the most people who have picked the same date was 3. So come end of February, I will lose between $5-$15 dollars. May you all have a wonderful February!
